What IS a video trailer?
A video trailer is a short 1-2 minute video, usually with YOU in it that describes what your (website) visitor is about to experience. or you could make a video trailer for an online course you want to offer or a book you have for sale. You could create a video trailer specifically created to attract a specific audience to showcase who you are and what you have to offer.
Can you make video trailers for virtually anything on your website?
Absolutely and why not? I’m finding video helps bridge the solitude people feel when sitting in their room alone at a computer and, when you speak to them, personally (via the computer), it makes their silent world come alive … not feel quite so alone anymore.
What’s more? When people walk away from their computers, guess what they remember and what lingers on their minds for quite some time? YOU in the video they just watched. If it’s a good video trailer, they’ll welcome the idea that you really care about them and want them to succeed, that is, if your video trailer conveys genuine honesty and a heart-felt desire to help the person watching your video trailer.
What types of video trailers can you create?
All kinds. The ones I make, for example, include home page video trailers of a sales letter, membership area video trailers, help and support section video trailers, … to name a few.
What’s the difference between a video trailer, video trailer and a video tutorial?
Like this:
A video tour is basically a walk through a place or demonstration. Video trailers usually last between 1 and 10 minutes in length, no more.
A video trailer can serve as an introduction or explanation for a product or service and usually with you in it (or not). It can motivate a potential buyer to purchase, such as a book, online course, etc. Video trailers usually range in length from 1-3 minutes and no more.
A video tutorial is a how-to video that shows someone how to do something. Video mtc-layout-video-mtc-layout-video-tutorials can range in length from 1 minute to 30 minutes or more.
How do you make a video trailer?
Simple, here’s what you do:
Decide what you want your trailer to be about, such as, a trailer welcoming a website visitor to a certain webpage, product, etc.
Write a quick script and/or an introduction and add some talking points to remind yourself what you’ll say in your video trailer. “Welcome to MySite.com. I’m going to talk briefly about _____ so you know what you can look forward to. First, in this course, you’re going to learn … etc.”
If you’re going to record any screen movements, such as moving your mouse around on your website, you’ll need screen capture software. For example, I use Movavi. If it’s just you sitting in a chair, all you need are some bright lights, your phone (if it shoots HD-quality video) and a lavalier microphone to capture your voice nicely.
Rehearse it a couple times and redo it a few times until it’s perfect and to your liking.
Edit your video by putting a nice intro/outro in it, along with text call-outs and maybe some music (optional) playing softly in the background.
Publish your video to an MP4 video (format) for uploading to the many popular video sharing websites. If your MP4 file is HUGE, you can shrink it with Handbrake.
Watch your video trailer for any mistakes; correct any mistakes you find and republish your video in MP4 format.
Upload it to your website and/or YouTube, as well as any social media accounts you want your video trailer to be seen on.
Embed the Vimeo or YouTube video embed code into your website where you want it to go and VOILA!
YOU’VE GOT A VIDEO TOUR ON YOUR WEBSITE showing people around.

Below, you’ll find two video trailers I made for this website. There’s nothing big about them, except the fact that they do the job! The video will walk people through certain areas of my website to give them the confidence to easily find what they need or are looking so they don’t ask me!
