A Message From The Author

What’s my story? Real quick, I’m a lot like you! I too wanted to have my own YouTube channel and benefit from it for all the right reasons. (i.e., money, fame, opportunities, etc.) I would say I got off to a late start, though. I could have started my channel some 15+ years ago, but I didn’t. When I was finally ready, I created my channel @BartSmithWorld during the summer of 2021.
Since then, I’ve actually been working on it, along with several side projects that have prevented me from promoting my channel, UNTIL NOW! I’m an author who’s now writing his 30th book. Yep, 30 books! That said, when I created my YouTube channel, I already had a lot of content to stuff into it.
What’s more, I did a lot of research about “all things” YouTube. I then started planning my channel → I created my Sections, Playlists and listed out all the video Shorts and other videos I wanted to make. I even created a Google doc and a spreadsheet listing out 2,000+ videos I could make. I’m at 1,080 (videos) on my channel right now so I’m halfway there. (HAHA) Seriously, here’s a look at the Sections I have on my YouTube channel:
1. Audiobooks, Book Commentary & Book Tours
2. Cooking Lessons/Recipes, Kitchen Videos & More
3. Software Tutorials, Tech How-To Videos & More
4. Motivational/Self-Help Videos From Bart's Books
5. Want Bart's Advice? (What To Say or Say Coaching)
6. Business Special Reports & Training Tutorials
7. Webinars, Workshops, Speaking, Talks & Trainings
8. Interviews, Appearances, Press & Media Coverage
9. Live Recordings (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, etc.)
10. Products/Service Reviews & Recommendations
11. Acting, Comedy, Commercials, Music, & More
12. Fun, Activities, Travel Videos, Life Updates, etc.
You see, it’s within each of those Sections, that I had planned on uploading dozens of videos in their respective Playlists. Having made lists of my Playlists I wanted to have on my channel ahead of time helped me organize my videos just as fast as I could create them. Yeah, I know, that’s a lot of Sections (and Playlists and videos) for one person, but, like I said, I’m passionate about creating my YouTube channel just as you should be too. And? I’ve got a lot in me that’s still itchin’ to get outta me into video format and onto my YouTube channel.

In this first section, we’re going to get you all set up to start working on your YouTube channel. Whether you have one or not, we’ll cover all the basics plus a few things you might not have thought about as well. Doing YouTube requires commitment, some courage and gaining new business, technical and creative skills and knowledge. ALL OF WHICH, you’re going to acquire throughout this one book. That said, let’s hop to it and start YouTubing!
1.1 – What goals or vision do you have for you and your YouTube channel? May I suggest a few for you?
It’s interesting when you think about that question, eh? Either most people can’t answer it or they think along the lines of, “I’ll make it my goal to post once a week” or “I want to make $X with my channel by X-date.” While those sound like sensible goals, that’s really not where your aim should be, per se. Sure, you should set goals to make and upload videos on a routine schedule, but those shouldn’t be your “GOALS!” That’s just “work’ you gotta do to grow your channel. What I’m talking about are more like goals as related to “outcomes” or “visions turned into reality.” For example, and these are my goals, perhaps you might claim them to be your own too.

You know, one must know, if they are to embark on the journey of creating and growing a YouTube Channel that there are certain perspectives, philosophies, attitudes and approaches to take with you on this journey to help you … STAY SANE, GROUNDED and FOCUSED on any combination of the goals you just got introduced to. So, that said, keep these things in mind at the start and throughout your working on your YouTube channel:
■ YouTubing is a process → While you might work it hard and as fast as you can or want to grow your channel A.S.A.P., still, let everything take its sweet time.
■ Work your channel like a hobby → Yet, treat it like a business! If you want it to make you money and give you fame, yes, treat it like a business. BUT, don’t pressure yourself to achieve certain financial (or other) goals on YOUR time. It never works out that way.
■ Have fun → And, let YouTube success come to you! Don’t chase after it too hard or too much. Success will come (to you) when you’re ready and when you least expect it.
■ Learn as you go → Don’t rush anything. Be open to learning 24/7/365. Never stop!
■ Become a better YouTuber → LIVE YOUR LIFE and keep improving yourself. By doing that, you’ll always have stories to tell, lessons to share and new video content.
■ Avoid YouTube burnout → SPICE UP YOUR LIFE, treat YouTube like a hobby, have fun with it, take breaks from time to time and always be improving yourself.

Part of the learning process that goes into building an awesome YouTube channel is seeing what other YouTubers, content creators and influencers are doing with their channels. Heck, that’s probably what motivated many of us to get involved with YouTube in the first place, eh? So, who is your competition? Who’s doing what you want to do? Head over to their YouTube channel. Study their channel. Get ideas from YouTube channels that don’t even have nothing to do with your niche. Much can be learned, and for free, when you study other people, especially, if they’re successful and way ahead of you.
In fact, here are a number of things you can and should spy on when it comes to learning from other people on YouTube. Keeping these things in mind, as you build your channel, will help you (build your channel) every step of the way. “Oh, yeah, I remember seeing ____ on someone’s channel. I’ll do that on my channel as well.” Or, “Oh, I didn’t like how they did _____. I won’t do that on mine.” You get the idea. So, spy on these items:

What should you know about UPLOADING VIDEOS and THUMBNAILS to your YouTube channel?

Reprinted by Permission
When it comes to uploading your videos and thumbnails to YouTube, in essence, here’s what you’ll run into every single time. After a while, all this will become second nature to you. Check this out ...
KEY ASPECTS ABOUT UPLOADING VIDEOS
Policies
■ DO understand and follow YouTube’s guidelines for uploading content.
■ DO NOT upload videos that you didn't create or own unless you have permission.
■ DO NOT use content in your videos that someone else owns the copyright to. (i.e., music, video, images, etc.)
Video & Thumbnail Creation
■ Are you sure? → Right, are you sure your video plays the way you want from start to finish without errors? Are you sure your thumbnail is the way you want it? If not, and you find out (one or both) are not to your liking, you’ll have to delete the video and re-upload the corrected one all over again, which can take up more of your sweet time!
Video Formats
■ YouTube supports a variety of options: MP4, MOV, WMV, MPEG4, AVI, MPEG-PS, FLV, 3GPP, WebM, HEVC, CineForm, DnxHR, and ProRes.
Settings
■ Enter a Title → The title of your video.
■ Enter a Description → This can be quite long, so write all you want to describe your video. See others as samples and craft your own template to use for all your videos.
■ Choose a Thumbnail → Upload the thumbnail you created for your video.
■ Choose a Playlist → If your video belongs to a particular Playlist, then choose one or create one. Otherwise, let it roam freely on your channel.

40 WAYS TO PROMOTE YOUR VIDEOS and your YouTube channel (Online/Offline) ...
How To Create & Grow Your YouTube Channel Book Excerpt
Copyright © 2025 by Bart Smith
Reprinted by Permission
Now that your videos are uploaded to your YouTube channel, it’s time to promote them! Well, in this section, we'll dive into a number of ways to promote your videos, get more views, increase watchtime, gain new subscribers, encourage engagement, run YouTube ads, do collaborations and get interviewed all to help bring more eyeballs to your recently uploaded video(s) and many other marketing tactics where promoting videos are concerned. C'mon, let’s get started!
It’s funny, whenever I hear YouTubers, content creators and influencers (and others) complain that YouTube’s algorithm isn’t promoting their videos (enough or anymore), one word usually comes to mind about these people → LAAAAZZZZZY! Okay, one more, uninitiated. Which means, someone who doesn't know about business, marketing or publicity. They might be simply naïve in a business context, or simply someone without business acumen. (i.e., the ability to perceive, judge, or discriminate well, especially in practical and/or business matters).
Well, whichever best describes their situation in the moment, it doesn’t matter. They’re not taking enough personal responsibility and initiative to promote their own videos; plain and simple. Of course, if no one’s interested in watching their videos, then no amount of marketing can really help them. They either need to make new content that engages people to watch or go do something else with their time.
That said, one should never cry buckets of YouTube tears or blame YouTube for their lack of views when YouTube doesn’t do (some or all) of the work when it comes to promoting one’s videos. In fact, here’s a tiny little secret about YouTube’s algorithm → it doesn’t know how great your videos are until people know how great your videos are. Which means, it helps if YOU start promoting your videos initially, and hard, and don’t stop, so YouTube can collect the right amount of data from that traffic (you created initially) to your videos.
Then, once enough data’s been collected by YouTube on your video traffic, views and other video analytics, YouTube’s algorithm can better kick in to help spread your videos to other parts of YouTube, hence introducing them to potential new viewers, which can lead to more views and subscribers. Remember, there are billions of videos competing for YouTube’s algorithm attention.
Where you have the advantage is if you start promoting your videos on your own, both online and offline, via YouTube collaborations, interviews, ads, and even various social media mentions. All of which helps YouTube do its job and gets your channel started earning more views, likes, and subscribers.
Okay, I know what I just said may have been a tad wordy, but you get my point. It’s up to us initially and throughout the lifetime of our videos to promote them if we want to see more traffic, views and subscribers than what YouTube's algorithm can ever offer us.
That said, let’s dive into 40 WAYS WE CAN PROMOTE OUR VIDEOS so YouTube can join in on our efforts as soon as we drive our first visitor to our first video!

■ If you think a comment is inappropriate, you can report it as spam or abuse.
■ If the comment was really bad, you could simply remove it from view.

■ You could also respond to negative comments with honesty, humility and/or humor. Addressing such comments head on shows you’re not afraid to accept criticism.
■ You also put the commentor in their place if/when necessary, and you let other commentors know you don’t hide from negative feedback. That will earn you respect from other commentors who just might come to your rescue.

If you're experiencing a declining subscriber count on your YouTube channel, the most effective approach is to analyze your content strategy, re-engage with your existing audience through interaction and community building, explore new video formats or collaborations with other creators, and consistently produce higher quality content that aligns more with your niche and what your current audience is most interested in.
Also, monitor your analytics often to identify key areas for improvement and adapt to what you find (i.e., good or bad) accordingly. Another good tip is, if necessary; consider addressing any significant changes in your content direction or posting schedule with your viewers to maintain transparency and to manage their expectations. Also, encourage viewers to provide feedback on what they want to see more of. “Hey, what else would you like to see me produce for you?” Further, check this out …
KEY POINTS ABOUT YOUTUBE STRIKES

Why and when should you hire someone and/or automate some of your YouTube responsibilities?

They say, you can't grow unless you can scale. Well, to scale means letting go of some things you do and let others (with possibly more skill/talent) do for you. In doing so, you open up more time for you to focus on things you're better at. In this section, I'll cover the what, where, when, why, and how to ask for help when it comes to the things you should delegate going forward on your YouTube journey.
1. OVERWHELM → It’s apparent at this stage of your YouTube journey that you’re overwhelmed with tasks, inquires, requests, the need to be creating content, etc. Well, it’s time you got help!
2. AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT → You feel pressured to interact with and respond to your audience constantly. Hire an assistant to respond on your behalf with custom responses.
3. WORK-LIFE BALANCE → You find it difficult to separate work from your personal life due to the always-on nature of content creation. Time to hire someone to help relieve you of some of those day-to-date duties so you can LIVE a little (more).
4. ROUTINE/MUNDANE TASKS → By now, you’re well aware of the repetitive, mundane tasks that now seem boring to you, but you know they must get done. So, hire someone to do these things for you.
5. CREATIVE FOCUS → Perhaps you’re struggling to come up with new ideas and concepts for content because you’re bogged down with too many activities that you really could/should outsource to free up your time. Remember, never spend all your time doing that which you can hire someone else to do for you, which then frees up (more) time for you to do what you’re best at → creating content. What else can you think of that would make you want to hire someone to do those things which you either can do, but don’t want to do or those things you can’t do and need to hire someone to do? Make note and hire someone!

How to ask for what you need done when you need help …

So you know you need help, but how do you ask for it? Well, simply, start the conversation going and let the other person help you finish what you think you need done. That is, if you don’t know exactly what you want. Here are some sample scripts to follow when asking for help:
1. “I need help doing what I was doing because I just don’t have the time to do it anymore. Specifically, I was ______ (explain task) and basically I just need someone to take my place and do this particular task. Can you do it for me, what are your fees and how long can you commit to performing such a task?”
2 “I need help doing something I don’t know how to do because I am focused on doing what I do best and need your help. Specifically, I need help doing ______ (explain task). Can you help me? What are your fees and how long can you commit to performing such a task?”
3 “I’m not sure how to describe what I need done, but here are some examples of what I’d like help with. (Show them examples of what you need done.) Can you help me? What are your fees and how long can you commit to performing such a task?”
4 “I saw the business services you provide, which I’ve never heard of before. They sound like they could help me with my YouTube channel (Tell them how you discovered them and their services; perhaps via search.) What are your fees and how long can you commit to performing such tasks?”
