RECIPE INTRODUCTION
I have been juicing for more than 25+ years. Whenever I feel I need a shot of real liquid vitamins and minerals, I turn to juicing. If I want to scale back my food intake and give my digestive system a break, I’ll juice. If I want to make something simple for breakfast, lunch, dinner, even a snack, I’ll juice.
Despite what people say about juicing, if you juice in small quantities, there can only be more to gain than there is to lose. So, with that, I give you my juicing tips and recipes. How many multivitamin pills and nutrient capsules are you wasting your money on trying to stay healthy? There are so many good reasons for you to juice. Some are more obvious than others. When I juice fresh fruits and vegetables, I know I am guaranteed to get most of what I need nutritionally.
EQUIPMENT NEEDED
❑ JUICING MACHINE → While there are several juicing machines you could use/buy, if you don’t have one yet, consider the SiFENE Juicer Machine or similar one of a different brand. I have a Picberm juicer and I love it. Easy to use and clean. I’ve been juicing with this type of juicer for 20+ years. If you already have a juicer, then, what are you waiting for? Don’t let your juicer sit on the shelf collecting dust like I’ve seen so many have. Start using it!
❑ PLATE OR CUTTING BOARD → You’ll need one to cut your fruits and veggies on. Sure, you could use a plate. I do sometimes. Glass cutting boards are better than plastic or wooden cutting boards. Overtime, plastic and wood boards can get chipped away when you cut on them, which then leaves tiny pieces of plastic/wood in your food. Glass cutting boards have a little more durability to them, from my experiences. That's why I prefer them to the other types.
❑ FROZEN GLASS -OR- MUG → As the juice comes out of the juicer, I like to let it pour into a frozen mug to keep the juice nice and cold.
JUICING TIPS
1. Wash your hands and then wash all your fruits and vegetables with fruit and vegetable-safe soap wash to remove any dust, dirt, waxes and/or pesticides.
2. Do NOT mix fruit juicing with green vegetable juicing. While there’s nothing wrong with adding an apple to juicing a few carrots, some spinach, celery, beets, etc. It’s when you juice sweet, acidic fruit (i.e., oranges, pineapple, etc.) together with green vegetables, they tend to produce intestinal discomfort. NOT GOOD. Alternate juicing veggies or fruits on different days.
3. Wash juicing machine parts after one drink and after every drink you make for best results.
4. Keep frozen glasses in the freezer to use. I do!
5. Cut away damaged or bruised areas on fruits and vegetables. Throw away old produce.
6. All hard pits, such as plum pits and peach pits, should be removed and NEVER JUICED! They’ll damage your juicer.
7. Don’t juice the peelings of oranges, lemons, grapefruit or tangerines.
8. The seeds should be removed from lemons, limes, grapes and melons, but it can be okay if they slip through the juicer.
9. Carrots do not need to be peeled. Simply wash thoroughly and cut off the top/bottom ends.
10. Juices should not be stored. They lose nutrients quickly! Drink the juice within 10 minutes for optimal intake of nutrients, enzymes and minerals! Do not store the juice. Drink it as you make it.
11. Swoosh the juice inside your mouth, under the tongue and all around to feel/sense your taste buds tingling as the vitamins and nutrients enter the body! Feel your brain cells light up as well!
12. Drink your juice WHILE you clean. That works for me too. Two things at once, wow! The juicing machine can be hand washed and left out to dry. I always wash it right away.
